Determining Sexual Development and Size at Sexual Maturity of Sardinella tawilis and its Implications on Management

چکیده
Reproductive biology is important in formulating management interventions for fish stocks. Limits on catch size are established based the identified at first sexual maturity of target species, which can be accurately determined through histological analysis gonads. The study investigated reproductive characteristics endangered Sardinella tawilis and analysis. Between 2017 2018, 312 samples with different lengths were collected Taal Lake's northern southern basins. length-weight relationship S. shows that species exhibits negative allometric growth. Female tawilis, characterized by larger sizes, significantly more abundant our catches than male individuals (mean sex ratio p<0.05) exhibit an asynchronous oocyte development. Histological gonads showed both female 75 to 79 mm FL, was smaller reported morphological Smaller average maximum lengths, as well maturity, could suggest has experienced growth overfishing a slowly degrading lake environment time. Results highlighted importance ensuring immature enter contribute population reproduction. It also highly recommended targeted fisheries above 100 exhibited highest proportion spawning capable individuals.

Inheritance of Age at Sexual Maturity
Dr. RAYMOND PEARL (1912) was the first worker to suggest that sexlinked factors were involved in the inheritance of fecundity. PEARL used as a measure of fecundity the eggs produced during the winter period. He proposed that two major dominant factors were responsible for high egg production, one of which resided in the sex chromosome. GOODALE (1919) and HURST (1921) each failed to confirm the ...
متن کاملDetermining Sexual Maturity of Broodstock for Induced Spawning of Fish
The external appearance of brood fish has long been used to assess the stage of sexual development. In some species, males change in appearance during the spawning season (e.g., vivid breeding colors in cichlids, hooked jaw in salmon, and roughened texture of the pectoral fins or head of cyprinids). These physical changes make it relatively easy to identify sexually mature males. However, secon...
متن کاملEstimation of size at sexual maturity: an evaluation of analytical and resampling procedures
Size at 50% maturity (l50%) is commonly evaluated for wild populations as a point of biological reference (see Table 1). To estimate l50%, a sample of organisms known to have just reached sexual maturity could be available and their arithmetic mean size can be used as an estimator. However, the sample needed to obtain such a designbased estimator (Smith, 1990) for wild populations might be too ...
